The Water Credit Standard (WCS) provides the rigorous rules that must be met to generate water credits within the Water Neutral Program.
Water Credit Standard
Outcomes at Scale
The WCS is a set of rules and protocols which are designed to achieve:
- Reduced water consumption through conservation and efficiency actions.
- Adoption of transparent water use accounting and impact reporting in organizational value chains.
- A thriving voluntary water credit market that that is socially equitable, beneficial to the environment, and economically driven—especially in high water stress regions.
Verification
Third-party independent Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) are trained and accredited by Water Neutral to certify that Origination Projects meet the requirements of the WCS. WN VVBs follow a rigorous verification process to confirm that a project’s Water Sustainability Action results in a measurable amount of additional freshwater (against a baseline) that is left in its source or dedicated to instream flow.
Water credits are only issued for sale in the Water Neutral Marketplace after the Water Sustainability Action has been completed and verified by a WN VVB. Are you interested in becoming a WN VVB? Please contact us for more info.
